All eyes and ears in Pittsburgh are watching and listening for an update on where QB Aaron Rodgers will land.
The Steelers are very much in the running for the future Hall of Fame quarterback and may just be the favorite. However, they have competition and Rodgers has interest in the New York Giants as well.
Rodgers’ decision will be which destination is a better fit for him as a player and a person. The latest update around the Steelers could make the job more attractive in the end.
Steelers set to meet with nine-time Pro Bowl FB Kyle Juszczyk
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Steelers are bringing in former San Francisco 49ers FB Kyle Juszczyk for a visit. The meeting is scheduled to take place today after Juszczyk was released by the 49ers at the start of the tampering period.
Juszczyk has made nine straight Pro Bowls as the best fullback in the NFL. Over the last eight seasons, Juszczyk has 2,107 scrimmage yards and 18 touchdowns in 125 games with the 49ers. Juszczyk is no stranger to the AFC North, as he was drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft and spent four seasons there.
“The Steelers, like many teams, used to play in a lot of 21 personnel with Rosie Nixx leading the way at FB. Ever since the departure of Le’Veon Bell, however, the team has used a lot more shotgun runs and spread systems. Insert Arthur Smith at OC and last year saw a lot of unique looks with multiple groupings in the backfield. A run-first offense and play caller, see Juice hit the market makes him a hot commodity and a perfect fit for the Steelers on offense.” – Rob Gregson, A to Z Sports
Juszczyk would give the Steelers a force of a blocker and a terrific piece for their run game. Having a good run game would be a great benefit to the 41-year-old Rodgers. Juszczyk isn’t going to come at a heavy cost, as he is 33 years old and plays a position that the NFL has really devalued over the last decade.
While everyone is waiting for Rodgers’ decision, which could be carried out, Juszczyk is a name to watch for the Steelers and would be an underrated piece of the roster if signed.
