The Las Vegas Raiders have been doing some solid work in free agency so far. They have won by simply not overpaying players and getting their replacements on good deals. After a ton of early moves, they are now slowly chipping away.

The Raiders entered day two of free agency, on Thursday, with needs still at the wide receiver position and running back position. So, John Spytek, the new general manager hailing from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who helped turn their run game around with Liam Coen last season, decided to sign a running back.

According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Raiders are signing former Miami Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert to a one-year deal, with the details still being ironed out. We will update when they're finalized.

This move is one that is bringing in a veteran running back to provide depth and a vet presence for whoever the Raiders plan to draft at the running back position in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Raheem Mostert's NFL career so far

Early on, he struggled to stick with a team after being signed as a UDFA by Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles, and was then cut by the Miami Dolphins, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, and Chicago Bears throughout his career.

His career took off when he joined the San Francisco 49ers in late 2016. Starting on the practice squad, he earned a spot on the active roster and got his first NFL carry that year. Under coach Kyle Shanahan, Mostert’s speed shone, especially in 2019 when he rushed for 772 yards and eight touchdowns. His standout game was the 2019 NFC Championship, where he ran for 220 yards and four touchdowns, helping the 49ers reach Super Bowl LIV, though they los to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2022, Mostert signed with the Miami Dolphins, coached by his former 49ers coordinator Mike McDaniel. He thrived in 2023, at age 31, he had his best season yet—18 rushing touchdowns, a Pro Bowl selection, and a Dolphins record. But in 2024, his numbers dropped to 278 yards and two touchdowns in 13 games.

Now he has a chance to do something great in his career, help whoever the Raiders draft become a good NFL RB.
