Las Vegas Raiders get Ashton Jeanty news they want to hear as practice for Week 1 vs. Miami Dolphins kicks off
The Las Vegas Raiders hope to get Ashton Jeanty going this week as they prepare for Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.
The Las Vegas Raiders are almost ready to kick off their season in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins. But it wouldn’t feel like a real season opener without their star running back, Ashton Jeanty.
Jeanty injured his ankle in the last week of training camp. Now, he’s back to practicing. On Wednesday, the first practice day of Week 1, Jeanty was a full participant in practice. This is great, considering he’s at least a participant.
However, if he cannot go on Sunday, rookie running back Mike Washington will be the guy. You certainly hope Jeanty is good enough to go. Being a full participant hints that he will be ready to play in Week 1. However, we have seen crazier things happen. And just because he is a full go on Wednesday does not mean he will play the entire game on Sunday. The Raiders could implement a snap count for Jeanty.
Ashton Jeanty does seem to be progressing well
According to several reporters and writers who attended practice last week, Jeanty was alive and well last Tuesday. Now, he wasn’t practicing with the team. However, in the practices following his injury, he wasn’t even outside. On Tuesday, he was working on the side with trainers and such. So, that’s great news for Week 1. However, that doesn’t mean he will play. It doesn’t mean he won’t, either.
Giving Jeanty some time off while fourth-round rookie Mike Washington takes snaps, or even giving him a snap restriction, could be beneficial. Washington had a fantastic training camp and preseason. The following week, Jeanty’s presence will matter as the team faces its first AFC West matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. Winning divisional games is crucial for any playoff hopes. While their exact strategy remains uncertain, it’s clear Jeanty isn’t expected to miss the first four games. Setbacks are always possible, but the team needs him healthy for the long haul.
Then again, in the days and week leading up to this week, head coach Klint Kubiak seemed uninterested in the idea of Jeanty missing any time. When asked last week whether he was optimistic Jeanty would play, he gave a simple “yes.” Now, only time will tell. Friday’s practice report will be worth watching.
