Following a 17-15 season, the Ohio State Buckeyes are expected to use the transfer portal heavily to reshape their men’s basketball roster.

The Buckeyes have been connected to multiple players already and the latest may be the most interesting one yet.

According to On3’s Jamie Shaw, the Buckeyes have the momentum to land Indiana transfer G Gabe Cupps, an Ohio player that the Buckeyes recruited out of high school.

“In speaking with sources around the recruitment, two programs that were immediately brought up were Ohio State and Dayton. Speaking with one source recently, the Buckeyes are the school that currently seems to have momentum.” — Jamie Shaw, On3

Cupps entered the portal earlier in the week after two seasons with the Hoosiers. As a freshman, Cupps started 22 games for the Hoosiers and averaged 2.6 points, 1.2 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game. Cupps attempted under three shots a game and was mainly a facilitator and defender. However, Cupps brings a good basketball IQ and shooting ability to the court. He was a standout at Centerville High School where he was a Mr. Basketball in the state of Ohio playing under his dad, Brook.

Dayton is the other school showing heavy interest and that makes a ton of sense, as they’re the school from his hometown area and a program that recruited him out of high school. Cupps was a four-star recruit out of high school and the No. 131 overall player. The 6-foot-1 guard is rated as the No. 24 overall transfer in the portal by 247 Sports.

The Buckeyes are going to likely add players at guard, forward, and center in the portal. Cupps would fill one of those guard spots with three years of eligibility remaining. Cupps played in just four games this season due to a meniscus injury.

Once Cupps entered the portal, the Buckeyes looked like a logical landing spot. Now, Ohio State appears to be in the driver's seat.
