The Tennessee Vols' biggest loss in the NCAA transfer portal this offseason was arguably defensive lineman Jayson Jenkins.
Jenkins, a former three-star recruit from New Jersey, appeared poised to play a key role in Tennessee's defensive line rotation in 2025. Instead, Jenkins will spend his fall in Tallahassee after transferring to Florida State earlier this offseason.
But unfortunately for Jenkins, he won't see any action during spring practice with the Seminoles.
Florida State head coach Mike Norvell announced on Monday that Jenkins will be out for spring practice, though he's not expected to miss any time in-season.
Jenkins played in 13 games for the Vols last season, totaling nine tackles, four tackles for loss, and two sacks.
A Power-4 general manager told The Athletic last month that he believes Jenkins has NFL talent.
"Jayson Jenkins who signed with Florida State," said the general manager when asked which transfer player he liked the most that didn't sign with his program. "I think he’s an NFL defensive end in the right scheme. Big kid, 6-6, 280, movement skills, length, physicality. He’s nice."
Losing Jenkins was unfortunate for Tennessee, but the Vols should still have plenty of defensive line depth in 2025.
