The Tennessee Vols have extended an offer to a freshman at Baylor School in Chattanooga, but it’s not the one UT fans are probably thinking of. 

According to Rivals’ Chad Simmons, Tennessee is one of several SEC schools to offer 2030 linebacker Edward Brewer, 6-foot-1, 225 lbs. 

Alabama and Georgia have also offered the young linebacker.

Marshall Manning, the son of Vols legend Peyton Manning, is also a freshman at Baylor School. Marshall, however, is serving as a backup to starting quarterback Keegan Croucher, a four-star Ole Miss commit, this season. 

Marshall, who is going to miss a few weeks due to a foot injury, is expected to be Baylor’s starter in 2027. That’s likely when his recruitment will kick up a notch.

Why Tennessee offered Edward Brewer and not Marshall Manning

It makes sense that Tennessee has offered Brewer and not Marshall – because Marshall simply hasn’t played much yet. 

And while, yes, it is Peyton’s son and everyone is well aware of that, I think Tennessee is going to recruit Marshall like he’s any other recruit. I don’t think they’re going to change their approach just because it’s Peyton’s son (and I think that’s how Peyton would prefer it).

Archie Manning tried to make Peyton’s recruiting process as “normal” as possible when Peyton was a recruit in the early ’90s, and I think that’s what Peyton is going to want for Marshall as well. And I think that’s how Josh Heupel and his staff will approach it (just like they did with Vols legend Jason Witten’s son Cooper, who is now an Oklahoma commit).
