After a treacherous football season in 2024 and a rollercoaster basketball season, the Oklahoma Sooners' baseball team is on a roll right now. However, they are learning a lot as they play, even against smaller teams.

They are learning about themselves. Yes, they have gotten off to this dominant start in the 2025 season, but, there will be some times when adversity hits. It's how you overcome that adversity that says the most about what kind of team you are. Heading into the Tuesday night game against UT Arlington, a smaller school, the Sooners ranked as a top 12 team across all rankings, and that's how they have been playing, too. With just two losses on the year, the Sooners may have been looking to cruise through this series.

But, it wasn't going to be as easy as everyone thought. The Mavericks were going to put up a fight.

"If you look at the teams that play in the SEC and then play a Tuesday game, it's really tough sometimes to get up for those games," head coach Skip Johnson said after the win over UT Arlington. "I thought they played with passion all night long. Adversity, that's just learning how to deal with it more than anything. I think the adversity they've really responded to more than anything. Really taking it pitch to pitch."

A walkoff win wasn't the way everyone drew up the Sooners adding their 18th win on the season. In fact, I'm sure most people thought it would come by way of a blowout, but the Sooners didn't have much breathing room all game. Easton Carmichael came in clutch to win the game at home for the Sooners.

They played a close one, and won a close one, a win that helps teams grow and learn about themselves.

"We've kind of had that confidence all year round," Jaxon Willits said. "I don't think it's going to waver whether we're up big or down big. We're just going to continue to have confidence in each other and keep playing well."

This team needed that type of win, and they got it. Now, it's about keeping everything under control.
