Maxx Crosby puts it all out there after the Las Vegas Raiders sign Geno Smith to an extension

Trading for Geno Smith was something that almost had to happen, especially when you look at Pete Carroll and his past with the Seattle Seahawks, paired with the fact that Smith was available. John Spytek played a big role, too. He and Tom Brady were at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers together, so the two of them realized how important it is to have a quarterback. If anyone knows that, Tom Brady does. And, I'm sure Brady was asked his opinion on whether the move would be right, or not, and had he said no, Smith probably wouldn't be with the Raiders.
If anyone knows good quarterback play, it's Brady.
Getting their quarterback, especially when they are dealing with all of the other roster needs they have, is key. When you have as many roster needs as they do, getting a good quarterback can help mitigate the damage that the other needs can do. And so getting Smith was key, getting him on an extension for three full years is even better.
“I’m hyped," Crosby told Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports after Geno Smith signed his extension. "Geno’s a baller and exactly what we needed for this team and organization. It starts with the work and commitment. The brotherhood. Now it’s our time to prove that. Let’s go win.”
The Raiders now have an accurate quarterback and one of the best deep ball throwers in the league, as last year the Raiders really struggled in the deep game. They had just four deep ball touchdowns, or passes that traveled at least 20 air yards, on the year, and that's with every quarterback that played.
Last season with the Seahawks, Smith was one of the best in the league at throwing the deep ball. He had seven deep ball touchdowns on his own, along with 26 completed deep ball passes, good for third in the league in both categories. So, with how bad their offense was in all aspects, specifically the run game and deep passing game, yes, getting Geno Smith was very important.
And Maxx Crosby knows that.
Geno Smith trade is a calculated risk that can put Pete Carroll and the Raiders in a win-win situation
The Las Vegas Raiders need a quarterback and when looking at this draft class, as well as the free agency pool, the options are very limited. Which makes sense why Geno Smith is the franchise's new starting QB. You read that right: Per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Raiders are trading one of their two […]
