The race to land the top 2026 recruiting class is well underway, and Kalen DeBoer hopes to have the Alabama Crimson Tide climbing higher as each week passes. His task is difficult as he's building a roster that has become shallow in playmaking, but the program still carries excellent weight while he rebuilds it.
Going into enemies' territory and poaching top talent is going to be part of DeBoer's strategy to get the Tide into the College Football Playoff. After creating an offensive powerhouse at Washington with star-level receivers, he and offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb can make a strong pitch to anyone.
They're hoping four-stat receiver Jalen Lott from Frisco, Texas, will be part of their future. The 6-foot, 170-pound speedster is projected to stay in Texas by picking the Longhorns, but Alabama has been working overtime to swing his loyalty.
Lott announced that he's down to his top 10 schools, with Alabama making the cut alongside other powerhouses across the country.
His father was a cornerback at Texas from 1983-1985, and his mother was a women's basketball player with the Longhorns from 1989-1992. However, it's not all about family ties with Texas, as his sister, Jasmyn, is a basketball player at UNLV.
Alabama is still hoping to plan an official visit with Lott this summer. He's already booked stops at LSU, USC, Ohio State, Texas, and Oregon. Each of those teams has no issues building a quality receiving corps through recruiting, and Alabama could pitch early playing time with Keelon Russell at QB as a carrot.
