The Miami Dolphins have some very crucial moves to make in the upcoming NFL Draft later this month from Green Bay, Wisconsin.

After an 8-9 year followed a disappointing tailspin to end the 2023 season, the pressure is on to turn the sagging direction of the franchise around quickly, and Miami still has plenty of holes to fill across the roster in order to do that.

As such, there are plenty of areas the team should be working on prioritizing this offseason to address in order to field the most competitive team possible.  That being said, there are a handful of areas that should not be high on the list.

Here are three that shouldn't be priorities:

1) Edge rusher

It's kind of odd to write this, given where Miami was last year going into the draft and with Jaelan Phillips rehabbing a major knee injury he suffered in September.  It's also true that you can never have too many good pass rushers.

However, the Dolphins found a star in the making in Chop Robinson.  Bradley Chubb will finally be ready to go again, and Jaelan Phillips will eventually be back in the fold.  Quinton Bell, Mohamed Kamara, and Cameron Goode provide solid depth.

For once, the Dolphins appear to be in good shape off the edge, which is important with the interior of the defensive line still being a hot mess.

2) Running back

I say this with a caveat: Miami could use another back but isn't in dire need for an upgrade here.  They have a pretty decent trio led by a star in the making in De'Von Achane.  Jaylen Wright is a solid all-around back.  Recent free agent pickup Alexander Mattison gives you some pop that the group generally lacked.

That said, there are a ton of players I like this year, and this RB class is extremely deep, as deep as it's been in a while.  As such, I'm not against taking advantage of that wealth of talent this year and selecting an RB in this draft.  I just don't think one should come until day three, where Miami has multiple picks in rounds 4, 5, and 7.  Days one and two should be about the lines of scrimmage and secondary.

 3) Wide receiver

This is a somewhat similar situation to the running back room.  The Dolphins signed a veteran last month in Titans WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, who gives some size to a majorly undersized WR room, something this team clearly needed. A top three group of Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, and Westbrook-Ikhine is pretty good.

However, that doesn't mean they should wipe the position off the board.  The stability of the relationship between Hill and the team – while seemingly out of crisis territory at the moment – isn't exactly on the most solid ground.  Also, the depth behind their top trio isn't great, with Erik Ezukanma and/or Malik Washington as the WR4 on the roster right now.

A day three pick on someone with physical upside and talent – perhaps a Dont'e Thornton, Jr. or Nick Nash – could make a good bit of sense, but there's not an immediate pressing need to pull the trigger sooner.  At least not yet.
