The Las Vegas Raiders are in the market for a wide receiver, and whether that is a big-name wide receiver or not is a different story. It feels like they will be acquiring one through the 2025 NFL Draft. But, can we rule out acquiring one via trade?
The best way to get the most out of Geno Smith, the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback and now Raiders quarterback, is to put a great offensive line around him and surround him with great weapons. They are trying to do both of those. But, the weapons area may be more important at this time.
The free agency market for wide receivers is somewhat bleak right now. It's really just Amari Cooper, Tyler Lockett, and Keenan Allen left of the big-named guys at the position. And, they don't have to go the route of getting a big-named receiver. But getting a guy with experience and a lot of juice left would help this offense the most.
If they're not going to sign any of those guys, they could do it by way of a trade. NFL analyst Adam Rank has proposed the idea that the Raiders should be trying to trade for Miami Dolphins and former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill.
Hill went through some emotions at the end of the season, basically bluntly saying he wanted out. He has since walked it back, but on Monday tweeted out the peace sign emoji, which is his signature thing. Now, it's worth noting that Hill is the ultimate troll, and he knows exactly what he is doing.
But, on that tweet, Rank quoted it with "Raiders?"
If that's the route the Raiders go, they should proceed with caution. Should they target Tyreek Hill? Yes, if the price is right and he's not too expensive, absolutely. They need a receiver, and getting Hill to pair with Brock Bowers and Jakobi Meyers would be elite. However, the caution part is not only the drama he brings with him, because we have seen it everywhere he's ever been, but he will likely be expensive, because he's considered one of the best players in the NFL. His $27 million cap hit for 2025 displays that real well.
What are the chances of any of this happening? Well, very slim. But, it sure is fun to think about.
