The Pittsburgh Steelers are headed into rare and rather horrible waters

Come Week 1 in September, they will have started five different quarterbacks to consecutively open a season.

Omar Khan knows that's a problem, and he knows where things stand with the position right now is less than ideal…

Omar Khan anxious to solve QB position

"It's not easy. It's not ideal," Khan said Monday at the NFL's Annual Meetings. "I'll put it that way. We addressed it last year. We're addressing it this year. At some point, we have to find the long-term solution. I'll say that might happen this year. It could happen next year, but in the meantime, we're going to keep doing whatever we can to win a championship this year."

While it may seem obvious that the Steelers have been in quarterback purgatory since Big Ben retired, some within the Steelers brass, I.E., Mike Tomlin, have a more optimistic view of the situation in Pittsburgh…

"We're optimistic about the room that we're constructing, Tomlin said on Sunday. "Obviously, we're excited about having Mason Rudolph back. But certainly we're going to continue to explore all our options in terms of rounding that room out.”

And all options mean a lot of things. Aaron Rodgers, a trade for a veteran Pro Bowler or maybe even using premium draft capital to go ahead and find your future franchise signal caller.

Regardless, we can expect at least two more additions to the QB room before the team heads to Latrobe in late July…

"We always go to training camp with four quarterbacks, and we have two under contract right now, so all options are on the table through free agency, trade or draft," Khan said. "So all options are on the table."

Simply put, the Steelers know they need to solve what has become a five-year question at this point. If Aaron Rodgers comes, wins a Super Bowl, and sails off into the sunset, then it's all peaches and cream, and you worry about finding a quarterback in next year's draft.

But unless and until that happens, Pittsburgh has to accept the fact that they are still searching for their leader at the most important position in sports.
