Joe Milton's promising performance in the New England Patriots' final game of the 2024 season had many impressed.
And because of that, some thought he could be a trade candidate this offseason. Recently, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler revealed the Dallas Cowboys are a team to watch going forward as it concerns to Milton.
However, at the 2025 Annual NFL League Meetings, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel didn't give much away when asked about these trade rumors. Instead, he commended Milton for his efforts last season.
"Yeah, I think Joe did everything that they asked him to do last year. It sounds like, in conversations, that he worked extremely hard," Vrabel explained. "And that's tough when you're a quarterback. Everybody wants to play, everybody wants to be the starter. And it's great to have that attitude. And he was ready for his opportunity there late in the season, which I commend him on just like I would any player that sat there and went through a long season, a difficult season, and got the opportunity.
"He went out, won a football game, played well, helped his team win. And then, where that leads to, we'll see as the draft approaches and where Joe is on April 7 to start our offseason program. But you got to give Joe credit for being ready to go, going from the third quarterback to being able win that football game and stay ready and stay hungry."
Milton was selected by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and finished the regular season finale against the Buffalo Bills with 241 passing yards, a passing touchdown, and a rushing touchdown.
However, if Milton were to stick around in New England, it's unclear what his role will be. New England signed Josh Dobbs this offseason to a two year deal, and the expectation is, because he spent time with Vrabel in Tennessee, he will be the backup to Drake Maye.
On the flip side, Milton has proven himself to be more than just a third string quarterback. But it's clear the Patriots aren't rushing to make any moves at the moment.
