247Sports did the Georgia Bulldogs a major favor this week — and it should frighten the rest of college football.

There's no coach in the sport that's better than Kirby Smart when it comes to using slights (real or imagined) from the media as motivation for his team. Smart is the college football version of the Michael Jordan "and I took that personally" meme.

That's why it's probably not great for the rest of the sport that 247Sports pointed out Georgia this week as one of eight college football programs that's in danger of "regressing" in 2025.

From 247Sports: The preseason win total for Georgia last season was set at 10.5 and the Bulldogs lost twice despite going on to win the SEC and reach the College Football Playoff. There's a scenario in Kirby Smart's team hits the under again this fall with oddsmakers projecting 9.5 victories after losing a couple projected first-rounders on defense and watching Carson Beck depart for Miami in the transfer portal. Georgia hasn't lost three games during the regular season since Smart's first season in 2016, but there are some questions offensively for a squad that's going to play five opponents likely ranked inside the top 25.

I think the analysis from 247Sports is more than fair. The Bulldogs are losing some extremely talented players from last year's team that lost three games (just the third time in Smart's tenure in Athens that UGA has lost three or more games). Combine the loss of talent with a difficult SEC schedule and it's easy to see how it could be a tough season for Georgia.

But if there's one thing I've learned over the last eight or nine years, it's to never doubt Smart. In fact, when folks are doubting Smart, that's when the Bulldogs are the most dangerous.

It's tough to sustain success in college football because it's tough to stay hungry after reaching the mountaintop of the sport. Georgia seemingly taking a small step back last season is arguably the best thing that could've happened for Smart. There's no doubt that the fire has been reignited in Athens after a "down" season for the Bulldogs (which still included an SEC Championship). A little added motivation from the national media should be all Smart needs to keep his team motivated throughout the 2025 season.
