It's been hurry up and wait for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Aaron Rodgers.
While one side is tediously combing through NFL Draft prospects and trying to assemble a championship level roster, the other is taking walks on the beach in between workouts with Steelers stars.
And while the Steelers and Art Rooney are prepared to wait on Rodgers, it seem's they're patience might be wearing a little thin…
Steelers owner Art Rooney won't wait 'forever' on Aaron Rodgers
"Not forever, but a little while longer," said Rooney when asked if he's ok with wanting on Rodgers to make a decision. "We keep hearing that he's, I guess, headed in our direction, and so that seems to be all signs are positive so far. Didn't envision it taking this long."
The decision to sign Rodgers is a polarizing one, but it seems more likely by the day at this point. Not only was Mike Tomlin open and honest about the Steelers meeting with Rodgers, but the decorated QB and DK Metcalf had a throwing session at UCLA recently.
“Look, it is a process for Aaron Rodgers and my understanding is the latest step in the process was over the weekend at UCLA, he threw to DK Metcalf," said NFL Network insider Mike Garafolo. "They did have a throwing session, the two of them together, according to sources informed of that workout. So Rodgers is going through the process and checking all the boxes and I assume it was a good throwing session there with him and Metcalf. So we’ll see if that leads to him saying, you know what? I’m fully in. I like that guy. I like that target right there.”
“It's been reported that he [Aaron Rodgers] spent a day with us, and it was a really good day," said Coach Tomlin at the owners meetings." Specifically, he and I obviously have known of each other for some time, and so it was really good to spend some time together man and get to know each other more intimately, but it is free agency. It is a process. I have nothing of any more significance to add other than that.”
The signs are clear, the hearsay is no more. So what's the hold up? Well, Rodgers is Aaron Rodgers. An enigma, a future Hall of Famer, a man who walks to the beat of his own drum.
Art Rooney just wants that beat to have a little more tempo.
