Ohio State suffered their second transfer portal loss on Monday when Evan Mahaffey opted to join Austin Parks in the transfer portal.

The Buckeyes are clearly going to have a bit of a roster overhaul following missing their third straight NCAA Tournament with a record of 17-15.

Ohio State has been connected to numerous players in the transfer portal already and the latest may be the most intriguing.

According to On3’s Joe Tipton, the Buckeyes have reached out to Quinnipiac transfer forward Amarri Monroe, who was the MAAC Player of the Year this past season.

Monroe is a 6-foot-7 forward who put up 18.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game as a junior for Quinnipiac. The talented forward spent his freshman season at Wofford, where he started 11 games and averaged just 3.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game.

After transferring to Quinnipiac, Monroe leaped to 12.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game to go along with a block. The lengthy forward would be a capable shooter and a two-way player who would be a big boost for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State needs to get bigger and they need more size around Devin Royal in the front court. Adding Aaron Bradshaw didn’t go as planned this past season and the center position is somewhere they will have to add as well.

The size of a player like Monroe would be a big boost and potentially allow Royal to move to the three spot. Ohio State doesn’t have a visit scheduled with Monroe to this point and it seems to be just early on interest.

Any time a conference player of the year is mentioned, you’re talking about a talented player no matter the conference. Other notable programs that have reached out to Monroe include; Texas A&M, Rutgers, Louisville, and Butler.
