The Tennessee Vols are one of the teams still in the mix to land 2026 five-star edge rusher Rodney Dunham.
Dunham, 6-foot-4/227 lbs from Charlotte, NC, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 2 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina. He's also rated as the No. 14 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.
The highly-coveted recruit told On3 this week that he plans to announce his commitment on April 10. Dunham will be choosing between Duke, Notre Dame, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
Tennessee's had quite a bit of recruiting success in Charlotte, landing elite players such as five-star offensive lineman David Sanders Jr and four-star edge rusher James Pearce (a potential first round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft) out of the Queen City in recent years.
But unfortunately for the Volunteers, it sounds like Notre Dame is the favorite to win the recruiting battle for Dunham.
The North Carolina native is scheduled to take official visits later this spring/summer. Tennessee is slated to receive Dunham's final official visit (June 20), which will come the weekend after his official visit to Notre Dame.
It'll probably be tough for Tennessee to beat out the Fighting Irish in this recruiting battle, but that doesn't mean that the UT's recruiting efforts will be fruitless. You never know what could happen down the road. If Dunham lands in the transfer portal at some point, the relationship that Tennessee's coaching staff built with the five-star edge rusher during the recruiting process could prove to be beneficial.
Tennessee currently has eight players committed to its 2026 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 8 in the nation.
