The Michigan Wolverines have been chasing after a large number of high pedigree talents this spring on the recruiting trail. Sherrone Moore and company continue to host many of them for unofficial visits every week, with several set to visit officially this summer. Now that momentum continues, as they've become a finalist for yet another top 2026 recruit to help build around five star quarterback, Bryce Underwood.

Javian Osborne, Elite Four Star RB Recruit

We've been following top tier four star running back recruit Javian Osborne and the battle for his commitment here at A to Z Sports for quite some time. For a long time Osborne looked like he was a lock for Texas. Then there was momentum with Oklahoma and Texas A&M. Back to Texas. Then Michigan and Notre Dame began to surge after some positional staffing changes for the Longhorns.

Now Osborne has made it official. His recruiting battle is down to just two teams: Michigan and Notre Dame. He has official visits set with both in June as he finalizes his decision. Can Michigan actually seal the deal?

This finalist announcement between both Michigan and Notre Dame comes at a time that is certainly no coincidence. Javian Osborne has been visiting with all his potential finalist programs this spring, but he just finished things up with another trip to see Michigan over the weekend, then immediately narrowed things down to just two schools. So, yes. Michigan can certainly win this battle.

The visit last weekend marks Michigan's third time seeing Javian Osborne since early last fall. Notre Dame has seen him just once, albeit recently. The experts here at A to Z Sports do believe Notre Dame has a real shot too, but all of the visiting action, the long-term relationships with the Wolverines, and the recent success of Michigan sending running backs to the pros all favor the Maize and Blue.

There should be pretty immediate opportunity for Javian Osborne to start, or at least see significant action early for Michigan as well, if he does commit. Both Donovan Edwards and Kalel Mullings are already off to the 2025 NFL Draft. Incoming transfer Justice Haynes may be a one and done, possibly leaving for the pros next spring too.

The only real proven entity who will certainly be on the roster next year at the running back position for Michigan is Jordan Marshall. Marshall looked good in the bowl game against Alabama, but he's not necessarily quite as explosive as Javian Osborne.

Sherrone Moore and running backs coach Tony Alford shouldn't have any trouble properly pitching Osborne. There's plenty to like with Michigan for a running back prospect like him. Coach Moore and his staff just need to take advantage of their final official visit in late June.
