Former Tennessee Vols infielder Christian Moore is making his mark during spring training with the Los Angeles Angels.

Moore, a first round pick by the Angels in the 2024 MLB Draft, made it to Double-A last fall in his first taste of pro baseball. The former Vol hit .322 with five home runs and 14 RBIs in 23 games with the Rocky City Trash Pandas.

According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, Moore has carried the momentum from the end of last season into spring training.

“Christian Moore, in some ways, is the talk of camp for the Los Angeles Angels," said Morosi on Monday during an appearance on MLB Network. "Really impressing manager Ron Washington. And there is some conversation that he is going to get a look at third base in addition to second base.”

During Morosi's appearance on MLB Network, the longtime baseball writer told the story of how Moore ended up being drafted by the Angels. And it involves the baseball scout who taught Madonna how to play baseball for the early 1990's classic "A League of Their Own".

"Tim McIlvaine, their scouting director, told me that Bo Hughes, a longtime scout who actually helped to baseball train some of the actresses in 'A League of Their Own' — that's how long he's been around," said Morosi. "So what Bo Hughes did was he went to the College World Series last year and the Angels have their scouting meeting and they're talking about what Bo Hughes had seen in Omaha and he said, 'Listen, Christian Moore was the best bat I saw in Omaha'. So listen, he (Hughes) helped to train Madonna, he understood that Christian Moore's got a great bat. And now don't be surprised if Christian Moore is in the big leagues on opening day for the Los Angeles Angels."

What an incredible story (and also proof that a big performance in Omaha matters to MLB teams).

I mean, how can you not be romantic about baseball?

By the way, Hughes helped "baseball train" actors on other movies as well, including "Summer Catch" and "The Fan".

Hughes was also part of the scouting team that was responsible for the Angels drafting Mike Trout.

As for Moore, it's clear he's MLB ready. It's just unfortunate that he'll likely be playing for a non-contender in the Angels.
