Some really cool news for Tennessee Vols fans dropped on Wednesday afternoon.

According to multiple reports, Tennessee and Alabama will each wear home colors — orange for the Vols and Crimson for the Crimson Tide — when the two teams meet in Knoxville in 2026 and in Tuscaloosa in 2027.

It’ll be the first time since 1970 that both teams have worn home colors for their matchup.

“The Third Saturday in October stands alone in college football, and we are excited to restore one of its most iconic traditions as both teams wear their home jerseys,” said Tennessee athletic director Danny White in a statement. “I’m grateful to Alabama AD Greg Byrne and his staff for their shared commitment to bringing this experience back to the fans of one of the sport’s greatest rivalries.”

“The Third Saturday in October is special to our fans, players and VFLs, and bringing this tradition back adds another meaningful element to such a historic college football rivalry,” added Vols head coach Josh Heupel.

Tennessee and Alabama will meet on October 17 this fall.
