Once the National Championship win happened for the Ohio State Buckeyes, there wasn’t much time to celebrate with how chaotic things were for a bit.

Ohio State had to deal with a couple of transfers, but the bigger problem to deal with was coaches leaving. Ohio State had to replace Chip Kelly, Jim Knowles, and Justin Frye.

While all of that was going on and rumors were going on whether or not coaches would take jobs elsewhere, there were whispers that teams were coming hard for Ohio State WR Carnell Tate. It was rumored that Oregon had a heavy NIL deal on the table for Tate. However, Tate’s recent admission shows he never was leaving Columbus.

"The plan was never for me to leave," Tate said to WBNS 10TV’s Adam King. "I don't know where that came from, [or] where that started. I bleed Ohio State."

Quite a strong statement for Tate, who was able to break out in 2024, but is in store for an even bigger season in 2025 as the clear No. 2 option to Jeremiah Smith. As a sophomore, Tate was overshadowed by Smith and Emeka Egbuka but still put up 52 catches, 733 yards, and four touchdowns.

The talented junior is next up after Egbuka in the NFL wide receiver factory OSU is running at this point. A 1,000-yard season is a likely thing to happen for Tate in 2025.

With the transfer portal, NIL, today’s college football landscape sees rumors like these pop up all the time. Ohio State fans can feel at ease that Tate will be out there in Week 1 against Texas this fall.
