Ohio State is a month removed from winning it all and capping off their National Championship run against Notre Dame.
Since then, the Buckeyes have dealt with what Ryan Day is calling, “champagne problems”. Ohio State has had to replace multiple coaches who took new jobs with raises after the title game.
Things have slowed down a bit and the Buckeyes have addressed the departures. The busy time hasn’t stopped Day from doing interviews, which he has done more than his fair share of.
Day’s best interview yet after the National Championship game may come with Urban Meyer and “The Triple Option” crew. Day appeared on there recently and was asked about one change he would make about the College Football Playoff. Day’s answer simply shows why he is so liked by the players.
“The experience is something that we really got to learn from. I think that the player experience can be much better. I think that the focus needs to be on the players and I think we need to look at a lot of it,” Day stated.
Day explained that only the first round and National Championship game are given the CFP treatment and the other games are run by the bowls.
“I think we need to consider moving the hotels outside of these big cities because we're not going to these events anymore. I think being a little more secluded and looking at some of those locations is just better for everybody, especially for the players again.
“I think that we need to pour into the players. These are the guys that are doing the work. I think that we need the best food that can possibly be served for these guys. I think it should be the best conditions.”
Day wants these players to have the full red carpet treatment during the postseason. With the money that the game brings in due to the players, perhaps they should be.
Overall, Ohio State isn’t going to have too many complaints. The run they went on after losing to Michigan was a special one and a story that will tell itself forever. Wins over Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame make for the toughest stretch you’ll see.
There will be plenty of changes to the CFP following the first year of the expansion to 12 teams. It is never going to be perfect, but Day would like to see the postseason catered to the players a bit more.
Ryan Day makes an admission that will only feed the narrative that he was ‘born on third base’ at Ohio State
He walked into a good situation.
