Ohio State football gets hit with some good news before they’re highly awaited battle with the Texas Longhorns
The Ohio State Buckeyes have picked up a win off of the field by the way of a new commitment in the class of 2028. The news comes days before the Buckeyes take on the Texas Longhorns.
The college football season is here, but it is always recruiting season for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Ohio State had a key recruiting weekend to open the 2025 season against Ball State, taking care of business on the field while leaving an impact on several key recruits and commitments who were in town.
The Buckeyes are now reaping the benefits from that game weekend, picking up good news ahead of their top-5 matchup against the Texas Longhorns.
Ohio State is working on building a special class in 2028, and the Buckeyes just landed their fifth commitment to that group. This time, it comes at the tight end position.
Luke Sohyda gives Ohio State a physical pass catcher in 2028
Three-star tight end Luke Sohyda out of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, has committed to Ohio State. Sohyada is ranked the No. 521 player in the class of 2028 according to 247 Sports’ Composite and becomes the latest addition to a Buckeyes class that now features four of its five commitments on the offensive side of the football.
Ohio State already holds commitments from five-star quarterback Christopher Vargas, five-star wide receiver Jett Harrison, four-star running back Elijah Newman-Hall, and four-star defensive lineman Jameer Whyce. Sohyda gives the Buckeyes a 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end who moves well and is a solid pass catcher for his size. Despite his frame, he moves fluidly, can get up and make contested catches, and is a player who could develop into a strong blocking tight end after working in Ohio State’s weight training program.
Sohyada was on campus for the win over Ball State, and his commitment comes a few months after he earned his offer from the Buckeyes back in June when he was camping at Ohio State for 7-on-7s. Ohio State labeled Sohyda as a tight end they want to bring in with the 2028 class.
The commitment is a solid recruiting win for Ohio State tight ends coach Keenan Bailey. Sohyada picked the Buckeyes over Maryland, Pittsburgh, NC State, and West Virginia.
