Right now, it seems that the Pittsburgh Steelers themselves don't even know who their starting QB will be in 2025.
It's become clear that Russell Wilson is on the outside looking in, with Justin Fields as the frontrunner in terms of who returns.
But if the Steelers wanted a fresh start, they could go the route of a future Hall of Famer who has a friendship with Mike Tomlin…
Aaron Rodgers set to become a free agent
Aaron Rodgers flew back to New Jersey last week to meet with the Jets about his future with the team, only to be told that the team was moving on from him. If that means that he will be a June 1 designation that allows him to sign with any team in the league on March 12 if he decides to continue to play. Given that Aaron made the effort to fly back to discuss his future, all signs point to him continuing to play. It just won't be for the Jets.

The Steelers have an obvious need at the QB position and we know Mike Tomlin especially has an infatuation with veteran QBs that boast a championship pedigree. Not to mention, he and Aaron Rodgers have had their fair share of friendly banter.
"We've been in stadiums with him," coach Tomlin said prior to the Steelers mathiup with the New York Jets in 2024. "It's no different than your playing guys you know, like Matt Stafford or some guys within our division, Lamar [Jackson] and Joe Burrow. There's too much water underneath that bridge. Familiarity, not only with what he's doing, but with what's going on around him, that allows him to make some of the no look, throws and things that that we all have appreciated over the years."
So it's worth at least pondering if Pittsburgh would be interested in bringing in Rodgers, especially if Russell Wilson is in fact on his way out. He may not be the player who broke the hearts of Steelers fans in the Super Bowl nearly a decade and a half ago, but maybe he has a chance to win over some fanatics if he puts on the Black and Gold in 2025.
