They now enter the offseason with multiple big decisions to make, so make sure you know all of the important dates of the 2025 NFL offseason.
2025 NFL Scouting Combine
Dates: February 27-March 2
The NFL Scouting Combine kicks off in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 27 and runs through March 2. The Seahawks and the rest of the NFL will get the chance to watch many of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft class perform on the field. However, arguably, the most important part of the combine is getting medical evaluations and conducting in-person interviews with the prospects.
Franchise Tag Deadline
Date: March 4
Teams have till March 4 to place the franchise tag on any player set to become a free agent in the offseason. For the Seahawks, their most notable free agent is Ernest Jones IV. They acquired him via trade ahead of the NFL trade deadline this past year from the Tennessee Titans. The franchise tag price for a linebacker in 2025, though, is roughly $25 million a year, which isn't in the cards for Seattle.
NFL Legal Tampering Period
Dates: March 10-11
The unofficial start to free agency begins on March 10, with the NFL's two days of legal tampering kicking off. Teams can begin speaking and negotiating with free agents, but no deal can be officially signed until the free agency actually starts. Even though we will see most of the top free agents strike deals during this two-day period.
New NFL league year and Free Agency
Date: March 12
Free agency begins on March 12, allowing players to verbally agree to a contract in the legal tampering period to put pen to paper and make their new deals official. The Seahawks are currently projected to have -$11.9 million and will have to shed salary this offseason. So I'd suggest fans temper their expectations for the offseason, with the team unlikely to be big spenders.
2025 NFL Draft
Dates: April 24-26
The highlight of the offseason for a lot of fans is the NFL Draft. Round one of the 2025 NFL Draft kicks off on April 24, rounds two and three begin on April 25 and will conclude on April 26 with rounds four through seven. The Seahawks own the 18th pick, and have multiple different directions they could go with the selection.
5th-year option deadline for 2022 1st-round draft picks
Date: May 1
The deadline for teams to exercise the fifth-year option for first-round selections in the 2022 NFL Draft is on May 1 this year. The Seahawks selected offensive tackle Charles Cross with the ninth pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Cross is coming off the best year of his career, and I would expect the team to pick up his option and push off his upcoming large extension another year.
