Oklahoma Sooners land on top 10 list for elite 2026 WR but have a huge advantage over nine other teams

It's no secret that the people in Oklahoma weren't very happy with what they saw from their team on the offensive side of the ball last season. And, why would they be? This is a program that is so used to having some of the more elite offenses in the history of the sport. Then Brent Venables comes along after Lincoln Riley leaves for USC, and the offense is bad and the defense is good.
The offense really, really struggled last year. If the offense is even middle of the pack, we are potentially talking about an eight or 10-win season from the Sooners in their first year in the SEC, especially when you factor in that they had one of the best defenses in the country. If they can carry over that defense into 2025 and fix the offense, this could be a good football team.
And, on the offensive side of things, they have already gone through the precautions of making changes. Now, they just have to continue to recruit well on that side of the ball. After some recent news, they are getting even closer to landing one of the best wide receivers in the country for the 2026 class.
And, they have an advantage over nine other teams.
Sooners land on top ten list for 2026 WR Mason James
Mason James is a four-star wide receiver from Norman North High School in Norman, Oklahoma, and a top prospect in the 2026 recruiting class. At 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, he’s fast, agile, and has great hands, making him a standout player that major college football programs are eager to recruit. He’s already considered one of the best in his class and could rank among the top 100 players nationally.
In the 2024 season, James caught 53 passes for 1,233 yards and 17 touchdowns, proving he’s a dangerous deep threat and a sharp route-runner. The year before, in 2023, he had 1,135 yards and 17 touchdowns over 12 games, earning him the Central Oklahoma Athletic Conference Wide Receiver of the Year award. While he’s played some defensive back in the past, his future is clearly at wide receiver, where a ton of elite schools want to see him play WR.
Recruiting-wise, Oklahoma offered him his first scholarship in October 2023, a big deal for the Norman native who grew up watching the Sooners. Since then, over 20 big-name schools like Alabama, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee, and Texas A&M have jumped in.
Grabbing him could be huge for Oklahoma.
2026 4-star running back committed to Oklahoma Sooners just got a very enticing offer from SEC foe
That would be a crazy flip.
