Philadelphia Eagles star cornerback Darius Slay is very aware that he may have just suited up for his last game in green and white.
Slay has one more year left on his current contract with the Birds, but as NFL free agency approaches, the Eagles need to free up some cap space, and cutting the 34-year-old veteran defensive back would make room for some much-needed cash.
Slay joined the "St. Brown Podcast" this week, opening up about his future in Philly and admitting that he would love to stay and finish his contract.
"I've got one more left (on my contract), but you know how that works," Slay said. "Whatever they want to do, I might re-sign back, hopefully. If I ain't, we'll see what I'm doing because I do want to play one more year, for sure."
Slay's $13.7 million cap hit for 2025 is one of the highest on the team. Releasing him as a designated post-June 1 cut would save the Birds $4.3 million. The move would also clear $17.8 million in cap space for the 2026 season.
Slay knows that football is all business, and if he can't stay in Philly, he only has one other team on his mind, and he spent seven seasons there before he was traded to the Eagles.
"If it is, it is. If it ain't, it ain't," Slay said. "For sure, the two spots I would love to always be at is Philly or Detroit. The main two, the main ones I'd love to be at."
It's hard to tell what the Eagles will do right now, but if they really want to keep, general manager Howie Roseman will find a way.
