Few things in the world are a certainty, and that's particularly the case in the sports world as well.
Well, according to Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian, one thing is a certainty heading into the 2025 offseason: QB Arch Manning will be the starter for his team next fall.
No real blockbuster there, but it still wasn't something that Sarkisian was willing to admit to on Thursday – until FanDuel Sports Network's Kay Adams managed to gradually drag it out of him.
"It would be pretty tough for me to say he's not going to be our starting quarterback," Sarkisian said with a chuckle. "He started for us a couple of games last year. Played really good football. Our first game in the SEC against Mississippi State, he was our starting quarterback. Quinn had been nicked up. So, I think the exposure that he's had, I think he's ready for it. I think he's ready for the moment. We've got a pretty good team. We've got a lot of work to do. We're in February. We've got a long way to go until the fall rolls around, but we're at a good spot to, I think, have a pretty good football team, and it's even better knowing he's going to be the guy for us.
"He's got to earn it, but I feel pretty good about it," Sarkisian responded with a grin to Adams' follow up question.
Adams ribbed Sarkisian about not naming starter, and Sarkisian grinned and responded, "we've got Arch Manning. Sure, we'll give you that, Kay."
It's clear that Manning is the obvious choice to start, but for some fans, getting Sarkisian to finally hand the keys over to the nephew of Eli and Peyton has been a process they feel is overdue with Quinn Ewers on the roster. As such, finally hearing it from the horse's mouth is perhaps of small comfort to some.
Outside of QB, Texas' offense will be replacing a number of other big names in key spots, including their top three pass catchers in 2024 in Matthew Golden, Gunnar Helm, and Isaiah Bond. However, Texas has plenty of other talented options on the depth chart to step in and contribute. We'll see how things work out in the offseason and fall camp to fill those roles.
Something we won't have to do for the Longhorns' signal caller.
Steve Sarkisian avoids massive loss as NFL fails to poach Texas' 2024 Coach of the Year Award winner
The Texas Longhorns have seen a flurry of staff departures this offseason after Steve Sarkisian had his program back in the College Football Playoff for the second-straight season. There's no greater nod to success than losing top assistants, but retaining the best coaches is also a key development. Sarkisian was able to retain strength and […]
