The Alabama Crimson Tide appear to be well-positioned to win a recruiting battle against the Colorado Buffaloes thanks in part to a misstep by Deion Sanders.

Rivals.com national recruiting director Adam Gorney predicted this week that Alabama will land a commitment from 2026 five-star wide receiver Cederian Morgan.

Morgan, 6-foot-4/210 lbs from Alexander City, AL, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 player in the state of Alabama and the No. 13 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class. He's also rated as the No. 3 wide receiver in the nation.

Gorney noted that Morgan recently had a great official visit to Colorado, but Sanders, due to an emergency, wasn't on campus for the visit.

"Morgan had an excellent visit to Colorado over the weekend but coach Deion Sanders was not in town apparently because of an emergency so that could be unfortunate if the Buffaloes were looking to surprise," wrote Gorney.

Emergencies obviously happen from time to time (though it hasn't been reported what Sanders' emergency was), so you can't fault Sanders for not being in town for Morgan's visit.

The problem is that Sanders, in general, can be tough to get access to for recruits. Sanders doesn't go out on the road to recruit, so he doesn't see these recruits as often as other coaches.

A big part of the allure of playing for Colorado is being coached by Sanders. But if Sanders isn't in town for a huge official visit, it essentially robs the Buffaloes of its biggest recruiting weapon.

Maybe it wouldn't have mattered. Maybe Morgan was destined to land with his home-state school regardless of whether Sanders was in town or not for his official visit. The absence of Coach Prime, however, certainly didn't help Colorado's efforts.
