The Cleveland Browns entered the 2025 NFL Draft with 10 selections but ended up making just seven picks after completing two trades.

Cleveland added some exciting talent, including defensive tackle Mason Graham and running back Quinshon Judkins—players who can fill key roles that were up for grabs on the roster.

One surprise from the draft was the Browns’ decision not to select a safety, especially after failing to sign one in free agency. Cleveland parted ways with safety Juan Thornhill and still needs a starter alongside Grant Delpit. While the Browns are likely to sign a veteran at some point, they could still use more depth at the position.

Browns UDFA Signing Has a Chance to Make the Roster at Safety

Following the draft, the first reported undrafted free agent (UDFA) signing for the Browns was Pittsburgh safety Donovan McMillon. McMillon started the last two years at Pitt after transferring from Florida. He recorded over 100 tackles in each of his final two college seasons and notched his lone career interception in 2024.

At 6-foot-1 and 197 pounds, McMillon has a legitimate shot at making the roster as depth at safety and contributing on special teams. Under general manager Andrew Berry, the Browns have not shied away from giving UDFAs a chance. Players like D’Anthony Bell, Ronnie Hickman, and Mohamoud Diabate all made the roster after going undrafted.

Trey Dean and Christopher Edmonds are the other safeties currently on the roster alongside Delpit and Hickman, in addition to McMillon. The Browns typically keep at least four safeties, and McMillon has as good a shot as either Dean or Edmonds—both former UDFAs themselves.

Safety is one position where the Browns have consistently found value among undrafted players. Donovan McMillon could be the next in line.
