The Pittsburgh Steelers have created some polarization with their 2025 NFL Draft class

Some point to a lot of hits, while others question why the team waited to draft a quarterback, took an EDGE they didn't need, and didn't address the CB or WR position.

Today, we're going to dive into these opinions, and explain why they are overreactions…

Overreaction #1: Steelers Drafted Jack Sawyer because of T.J. Watt's contract situation

Look, Jack Sawyer was excellent va,lue in the fourth round of the draft. At 22 years old, and with a second-round grade from the A to Z Sports NFL Draft team, the pick of Sawyer rounds out a pass rush quartet of T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith, and Nick Herbig.

Some wanted a QB (Shedeur Sanders) or a CB-WR, but the Steelers decided to take the best player available via Sawyer. Sitting and learning under T.J. Watt will do wonders for his NFL career.

And he will sit and learn under Watt, not replace him. Not only is the status of Watt's contract being made out to be a little more than it actually is, but I can assure you that they would not use a fourth-round pick to try and draft his replacement.

Again, that's not a mark on Sawyer, that's the reality of the situation. Watt is the best player on the team and a former first-round pick. Sawyer, if his career goes great, is a number 2-3 in a rotation.

This was the Steelers simply adding to a strength, saying we aren't getting bullied by the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs again, and drafting a player that wasn't supposed to be there in the first place.

Overreaction #2: The sky is falling at quarterback

I know, a sixth-round pick on Will Howard doesn't solve who will be starting at quarterback. I understand that the team only has three quarterbacks on the roster despite always taking four to camp.

Well, barring a last-second change of mind, Aaron Rodgers is your starting quarterback in 2025. Don't take my word for it, just listen to what Art Rooney had to say over the weekend when asked about where things stand with Rodgers…

"He does want to come here," said Rooney.

The owner isn't saying that, and the team isn't showing as much complacency in free agency and the draft unless they know Rodgers is headed to Pittsburgh.

Overreaction #3: George Pickens isn't getting traded now

George Pickens clearly emerged as a winner over the weekend. But the draft was just step one of the offseason. Teams will revisit trade talks before camp and potentially sooner if injuries occur in organized team activities.

There is also the midseason deadline, where the Steelers could fetch some capital before watching Pickens walk in free agency next March.

So while Pickens remains on the team, he's not in the clear quite yet.
