The Oklahoma Sooners may not be winning the recruiting battle over any of the blue bloods, or getting the best transfers in the world, but they are making sure they retain the players that were really good for them last season. They have done that since the season ended, and it hasn't stopped, either.

In fact, one of their best defenders just announced that he will be back, and he did it in the coolest way possible, too.

Sooners' Gracen Halton to come back in 2025

Gracen Halton, a defensive lineman for the Oklahoma Sooners, has made a notable impact on the team since joining from San Diego, California. A former four-star recruit from St. Augustine High School, Halton had originally planned to attend Oregon but chose Oklahoma following a coaching shakeup at Oregon. He joined the Sooners as part of Brent Venables' inaugural recruiting class in 2022.

Throughout his time at Oklahoma, Halton has shown remarkable progress. In his initial two years, he participated in 21 games, contributing 23 tackles with one for loss. His true emergence happened in the 2024 season, where he started in all 13 games, achieving 17 solo tackles, 13 assists, 5.0 sacks, and a fumble recovery.

His standout performance against Houston, where he scored a crucial safety, led to him being named SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week. This recognition underscores his role in fortifying Oklahoma's defense, especially as they moved into the SEC. During his junior year, Halton took on increased responsibilities, focusing on his physical game and leadership, stepping up after key seniors left.

Now, he will be coming back, and he will be a focal point on a defensive line that may be one of the best the Sooners have had in nearly 20 years.
