George Pickens might be the most talented player on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
But he's also the biggest headache on the team, and there's not a close second.
So whether or not the Steelers will extend Pickens is a growing question as he approaches the final year of his rookie deal.
It seems he has his own idea…
George Pickens not optimistic about offense going forward
"Yea, I've seen signs of growth for sure. From the past. From the first year I've been here just, just way more growth for sure," said Pickens when asked if the offense had improved over his three years with the team.
But when asked if that growth had him optimistic about the future, Pickens added, "Uhhhh, nah."
"I'm really just thinking about right now to be honest, can't even think about the future. [I'm] just thinking about what just happened," added Pickens.
Pickens had one of his better showings of the year, and his best game since returning from the hamstring injury that sidelined him for three contests. He caught five passes for 87 yards and a TD that sparked some hope for Steelers fans.
But it was too little too late and the Steelers dropped their fifth straight, leaving many to ponder if now is the time to make sweeping change, including at QB and even head coach.
But for Pickens, the Steelers may be his best bet if he wants any shot at accruing more success. Other teams may be willing to throw money his way, bit given the amount of antics and headaches he's caused in a culture as strong as Pittsburgh's, what would happen in a lesser franchise?
'He's just gotta grow up," said Tomlin when asked about George Pickens' penalties during the first Cincinnati Bengals game. "This is an emotional game man. "These divisional games are big. He's got a target on his back because he's George. He understands that, but he's got to grow up. He's got to grow up in a hurry."
Pickens has been fined multiple times this year for everything from facemasks to gunlike gestures, to personal fouls, and he even got into a fight on the last play of a game against the Cleveland Browns.
So what's next for Pickens?
It feels like no one knows the answer right now.
T.J. Watt may have played his final game in a Steelers uniform due to no fault of his own
A sad day in Pittsburgh.
