The Oklahoma Sooners lost seven wide receivers to the transfer portal in the offseason, and it's been a slow but steady rebuild in that room with additions from the portal.

Oklahoma landed wide receiver transfer number four on Tuesday, as Cal transfer wide receiver Josiah Martin announced his commitment to the Sooners.

Martin joins Javonnie Gibson (Arkansas Pine-Bluff), Isaiah Sategna (Arkansas), and Kiontez Lewis (Southern Illinois) as the four transfer commits to rebuild the Sooners' wide receiver room.

Martin, a true freshman who redshirted this season, was a three-star wide receiver out of Denton Guyer in Dallas. He caught 12 passes for 112 yards this year, including a four-catch, 40-yard performance in the bowl game against UNLV.

The important part for the Sooners is that Martin will have multiple years of eligibility. He might not play much in 2025, but Oklahoma just needs bodies to help restock their wide receiver room. They might be able to find some upside out of him moving forward.

Deion Burks is the Sooners' top target next season, for obvious reasons, and the rest of Oklahoma's plan is to build around him with their receiver room. It's not a coincidence that they added taller perimeter wide receivers (Javonnie Gibson, Kiontez Lewis) and another speedster (Isaiah Sategna) to open things up for Burks, who is an elite yards-after-catch specialist out of the slot.

It's unclear if Oklahoma is done adding to the wide receiver room out of the portal. I can't imagine they would be done with as much of an overhaul as they need, but they are running out of spots on the roster, barring further departures.

For the Sooners, adding multiple bodies in the portal lets them run new offensive coordinator Ben Arbuckle's offense to full potential. Last season for the Cougars, 11 different wide receivers saw action in Arbuckle's offense.

This move won't make a big wave, but it's still an important one for Oklahoma as they rebound from last year's offensive disaster.
