The Oklahoma Sooners have played their transfer portal process a bit slow, but it's picked up steam over the last few days. They've picked up a few more pieces in the portal and are now turning to a few more big-name pieces to add to the team for next season.

One of those names is pass rusher Marvin Jones Jr, previously of Florida State and Georgia. Jones is visiting the Sooners.

Jones was a rotational pass rusher for the Bulldogs before transferring to Florida State, where he became a starter. He enjoyed a solid breakout season in his first year in the starting lineup, posting 16 pressures, four sacks, 17 defensive stops, and one forced fumble.

He's a terrific athlete with plenty of upside to go, so it was encouraging to see his numbers leap this year. Fortunately for Oklahoma, they've become a pretty strong developer of defensive end talent under Brent Venables. Ethan Downs, R Mason Thomas, Rondell Bothroyd, PJ Adebawore, Trace Ford, and Caiden Woullard have all posted productive seasons under this staff. Hopefully, the same kind of development can work for Jones to take advantage of his athletic tools.

For Oklahoma, this would be a big addition in multiple ways.

For one, it'd be an optics win for the Sooners to help quiet some of the narratives regarding the transfer portal class. It's all entirely nonsense anyways, but it'd be a big win for them to help settle the fanbase.

On the field, however, it makes sense for the Sooners to be interested. Oklahoma will lose Trace Ford, Caiden Woullard, and Ethan Downs, who will all graduate and potentially be drafted into the NFL. While they have some younger players behind them they are excited about in PJ Adebawore and Danny Okoye, I can understand the value of them adding a more proven starter, especially one with plenty of upside to his name.

This is still just only a visit and I'm sure Jones will have plenty of suitors. However, if he does land with the Sooners, this would be quite the prize to land.
