It's bizarre the amount of incorrect information is circling about Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold.

After signing a one-year, $10 million contract in March, things got off to a hot start. The Vikings went 5-0 before the week six bye week. Out of the bye week, they lost two in a row before ripping off nine in a row and getting himself in the Most Valuable Player conversation.

Even with his impressive year, those in the media still aren't paying him the respect he deserves.

Stephen A. Smith shares false stat about Sam Darnold

During Thursday morning's First Take on ESPN, Stephen A. Smith talked about Darnold's "stellar season" by stating that Darnold hasn't thrown for 300 yards since the first matchup with the Chicago Bears.

“We’re talking about Sam Darnold, and again, he deserves credit; we know he’s had a stellar season. The man hasn’t thrown for 300 yards since November 24th against Chicago," said Smith.

Darnold hasn't just thrown for 377 yards against the Green Bay Packers on national television this past Sunday, he also threw for 341 yards on December 8th against the Atlanta Falcons

The even more frustrating part was none of the other panelists – host Molly Qerim, Booger McFarland, and Chris "Mad Dog" Russo corrected him. After that point, he continued asking Darnold to prove it and not to crown him like he's Hall of Famer Dan Marino.

“I mean, I’m just throwing it out there. Let’s not act like this is the second coming of Dan Marino, and we just see him flinging passes all over the place. I mean, you got (Justin) Jefferson, you got (Jordan) Addison…I’m just saying, can we pump the brakes…can we sit up there and at least have the mentality, let’s see? Everybody else got to show, how come he don’t have to show it? Let’s see.”

You have to wonder if Smith has watched a single game of Darnold's this season because he made the Pro Bowl Games for a reason. He's been one of the best quarterbacks this season with a bullet.

Maybe next week there will be a correct segment with Darnold's name involved. You can watch the full exchange below.
