The Kansas City Chiefs always like to go big for their halftime performances once the postseason begins.
In years past, they've enlisted hip-hop artists such as Lil Jon', T-Pain, Tech N9ne, and more. When the Chiefs take on the Houston Texans on Saturday, Big Boi will perform the halftime show for the crowd at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
The team announced that Atlanta-based rapper Big Boi will perform a five-minute medley of his music, which will probably include hit songs like "All Night," "Kill Jill," and "Shutterbug." But Big Boi has the chance to do something really special as the Chiefs kick off their quest for a three-peat.
If you're familiar with Big Boi's musical background, you probably know where I'm going with this. Big Boi, of course, was previously part of the iconic hip-hop duo Outkast alongside André 3000. The two haven't released any new music together in a sort of permanent hiatus after performing their last show at Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans in Oct. of 2014. Neither has ruled out a potential reunion, though.
Just nine weeks ago, Big Boi was promoting action figures of the duo on his Instagram page.
On "CBS Mornings" back in 2023, André 3000 discussed the potential for new OutKast music in the future. He implied that he wants it, but it's a matter of the mind and creativity meeting that willingness and desire
I'd give this a .01% chance of actually happening on Saturday, but it's not impossible. Kansas City is adept at bringing eyes to the NFL. The game between the Chiefs and Bills back in November drew 31.1 million viewers. It's not clear if ESPN or ABC will broadcast any of the performance from Big Boi, but they certainly could provide some sort of look-in. Even in a five-minute medley, if Big Boi brought out André 3000, the world and social media would go absolutely bananas. It'd be the perfect venue for announcing new music or a reunion between the two artists.
We'll see if they're bold enough to make it happen.
