The New York Giants' decision to keep head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen following another underwhelming season has caused controversy across the entire NFL world.

On the one hand, some argue continuity is the way to go. On the other, some claim it was time for a change. Even Giants owner John Mara admitted patience is running thin when he said "(Improvement) better not take too long, because I've just about run out of patience."

If you ask Eli Manning, however, Mara made the right call.

"It’s the right decision to keep Coach Daboll and Joe Schoen,” Manning told DJ Siddiqi from Sportscasting.com“You have to give these coaches and GM’s time to create their culture and you can’t necessarily do that in two-to-three years. You saw them make the playoffs in their first year together, and went to a playoff game. They have to figure out how to bring in the right players. They obviously need the quarterback this year and figure out how they’re going to do it.”

For the Giants, finding that quarterback Eli speaks of got much more complicated with the team's unexpected win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 17. Rookie quarterbacks seems to be out of the question now that they're set to pick third overall behind the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns, who are likely going to be thinking QB at first and second overall.

Additionally, the Giants' decision makers will be under pressure and waiting around for a rookie to be ready to go is likely not going to be a priority. In other words, it seems like adding a veteran will be the path they end up taking. Candidates such as Kirk Cousins, Aaron Rodgers, and Sam Darnold might be in the mix for them.

Even if one of the top quarterbacks, Shedeur Sanders or Cam Ward, ends up dropping to the Giants at three overall, they probably would benefit from playing behind a starter or bridge quarterback as they're often called.

"I think nowadays it’s a little bit different — they expect a rookie quarterback to come in a play,” Manning added about quarterbacks in the NFL. “They’re not drafting him to have him sit, to have him develop. They want to get him in the game early, which I think is good. You have to get those live experiences. Very important and interesting whether they feel like one of these quarterbacks is the best fit or is worthy of the first pick in the draft or they try to bring in a veteran that can come in and make an immediate impact.”
