The Minnesota Vikings are going to be receiving a lot of awards after their incredible 14-3 season.
The first of those accolades came the way of wide receiver Justin Jefferson who was named to the NFLPA All-Pro team. This is likely just the first All-Pro team that Jefferson will be on this year after a stellar 2024 season.
Justin Jefferson makes NFLPA All Pro team
The NFLPA started their own All Pro voting during the 2022 season and it's voted on by players. Then NFLPA President JC Tretter wrote about how they go about their voting process when the first vote occurred.
- Only active NFL players can vote and they get only one vote.
- If a player missed five or more games as of Week 15, then they are ineligible. This is to ensure that we are choosing the best players who had the most impact this season. Being available counts.
- Players cannot vote for themselves or for their own teammates
- Players vote for the position group they play in and line up against.
- For example, centers can vote for:
- The best Center in the league
- The best nose tackle in the league
- The best Interior defensive lineman in the league
- The best off-ball linebacker in the league
- For example, centers can vote for:
- We had each various player leaders from each team nominate their two best special teams players (or “core teamers”) for the ballot. We wanted the locker rooms to decide who should represent their team in that position.
This is an important factor in the process. This narrows down how much players need to know, as they usually know more about their position and direct competition than anyone else in the league. The process is a very good one.
Jefferson was excellent in 2024.:
- 103 receptions (6th)
- 1,533 yards (2nd)
- 10 touchdowns (T-6th)
He was the biggest factor in the Vikings' success in 2024, helping lead a dynamic passing attack with quarterback Sam Darnold at the helm. His gravity was arguably a bigger factor with Jordan Addison taking a huge step forward this year.
Jefferson is bound to receive a lot more accolades over the next few weeks.
