Should Oregon Ducks pursue Carson Beck in the transfer portal? There's one clear reason why they should stay away

Two of the last three seasons have seen the Oregon Ducks go to the transfer portal to find their starting quarterback, with great success. Bo Nix, looking for a fresh start after departing Auburn, came to Eugene and solidified himself as a Heisman finalist and first round pick. Now he's continuing that success in his rookie season in the NFL.

Last year, Oregon took on Dillon Gabriel, following the script of a talented quarterback with a ton of experience looking for a second chance. Once again, Oregon found success — they won the Big Ten and went undefeated in the regular season, with Gabriel following Nix's path to a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Carson Beck, the Georgia quarterback that entered the 2024 season as the presumed top quarterback for the 2025 NFL Draft, had an up-and-down season, culminating in a shoulder injury. He has elected to return to college for another season, and has put himself in the transfer portal. Based on the last three years, there's plenty of people linking Beck to Oregon.

Personally, I don't think it should happen. Oregon enters the offseason with Dante Moore as the presumed leader in the quarterback room. On his way into his third season, the former 5-star recruit is dripping with promise. For the Ducks, it would serve them well to turn the keys over to him.

Players from the 2024 Ducks have expressed their confidence in Moore since the Pro Bowl. Wide receiver Tez Johnson, before departing for the NFL, took a question about Moore at the Rose Bowl. His response was pretty illuminating.

Johnson has been with Oregon with both Nix and Gabriel, but apparently the way Moore spins the ball stands out above both of them.

The wide receiver is not one for hyperbole. I can't recall Johnson ever speaking out of turn, or embellishing answers just for the sake of it. His words carry weight as a leader in the Oregon locker room, and his praise of Moore is a lot more than nothing.

Oregon hasn't been reported to be involved with any quarterbacks in the transfer portal. Beck would be a complete surprise, and would essentially push Moore, a potential multi-year starter, out of the way — not to mention the significant NIL it would take to get Beck. It would not be a wise long-term move for the Ducks to bring Beck to Eugene.
