San Francisco 49ers quarterback Josh Dobbs is hoping he can do 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings a big favor in the final week of the NFL regular season.
Dobbs, who was teammates with Jennings at Tennessee, will start at quarterback for the 49ers against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday (San Francisco is eliminated from playoff contention and starter Brock Purdy is dealing with an elbow injury).
Jennings has emerged as one of the 49ers' go-to receivers in 2024 and he's just 77 receiving yards away from his first career 1,000 yard season.
Dobbs spoke to reporters on Thursday and he was asked if getting Jennings to 1,000 yards will be a priority.
"That would be nice," said Dobbs when asked about getting Jennings to 1,000 yards. "I know he's going to put some pressure on me for sure. Hopefully we can take care of that early in the game. But definitely, I know that's a big milestone for him. He's put in a lot of work. We won't force feed him the ball, but we want him to get there for sure."
Jennings has 90 receptions for 923 yards and six touchdowns so far this season. His previous career high in the NFL came in 2022 when he caught 35 passes for 416 yards and a touchdown.
The former Vols wide receiver signed a two year contract extension with the 49ers worth $15.4 million before the 2024 season. That deal looks like one of the biggest bargains in the NFL after the season that Jennings has enjoyed.
