The Oklahoma Sooners lost a lot of players and still need some guys to help fill out their roster. They need everything from starters to depth pieces. They need a little bit of everything, in a little bit of a lot of positions, if that makes sense. And, luckily, the 2024 season just ended for the Sooners, which means they still have plenty of time to add to their roster.

The Sooners do, however, need some young guys as depth pieces that can develop into stars. And, they have the opportunity to grab one of them that's available, that has a connection to Brent Venables.

Sooners have a connection with Bama transfer

Jayshawn Ross, a talented edge rusher hailing from Kansas City, Missouri, enrolled at Alabama as part of their 2024 freshman class. Recognized as a four-star recruit, he was ranked No. 144 nationally, the 19th best edge rusher, and the sixth top prospect in Missouri by the On3 Industry Ranking.

At Liberty North High School, he had a stellar senior year, achieving 23 tackles, 11 for loss, and eight sacks, while also making a mark on offense with 12 catches for 254 yards and four scores. Ross committed to Alabama, turning down offers from notable schools like Kansas State, Ole Miss, and LSU.

However, Ross's contribution on the field during his freshman year at Alabama was minimal. He played in just two games, against Mercer and Chattanooga, without registering any tackles or impactful plays. He redshirted, keeping his eligibility intact for future seasons.

Recent news suggests that Ross has decided to explore other opportunities, entering the NCAA transfer portal after just one year with the Crimson Tide. He is a guy who didn't play as much as he maybe hoped he would. But, when he was being recruited, he attended Venables football camp, thus having a connection there to the Sooners head coach.

If they landed him it would be huge.
