The New York Giants' Week 17 win over the Indianapolis Colts ultimately cost them the number one overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

They now own the third pick, and many wonder if they will still be able to select one of the top quarterbacks in the class as a result.

Giants land Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter in the first round of a new mock draft

"Instead of going with a reach at QB, the New York Giants go with the best overall player in the 2025 NFL Draft. Abdul Carter is similar to Micah Parsons as an explosive, well-rounded pass-rusher. Pairing him with Brian Burns would be tremendous, but it also means the Giants need to fix their offense through free agency and Day 2 of the draft."

Not landing one of Ward or Sanders would sting for a lot of fans, but I think landing Penn State's Abdul Carter should soften the blow. I don't know if I'd go as far as to call Carter a blue-chip prospect, but he's probably the closest thing this class has on the defensive side of the ball.

Carter led the Big 10 with 12.0 sacks, and he led the FBS with 24 tackles for loss. The Giants would have quite the duo with Carter and Brian Burns, which would be a great foundation for their defense as they attempt to improve it in the coming years. Whenever they find their QB of the future, the plan would be that they already have a dynamic pass rush on the other side of the ball to keep the score low and make it so their young QB doesn't have to score 30+ points a game to compete.

Giants land their QB in the second round by selecting Alabama's Jalen Milroe in a new mock draft

While they didn't land one of the top two QBs, the Giants landed one of the best options after them in Alabama's Jalen Milroe. Milroe is a dynamic athlete who offers incredible upside as a dual-threat QB. He finished 2024 with 2,833 passing yards and 16 passing touchdowns, adding 726 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns.

Milroe has a lot of room to grow, and to be honest, probably shouldn't start as a rookie. This selection would give the team a player to develop at the position but would also require the team to look for a viable veteran bridge option for 2025. I'm sure that isn't exactly music to fans' ears, but it might be the best option for the team.
