The Tennessee Vols "have as big an ace off-field recruiter as there in the country" according to On3's Steve Wiltfong.

Vols senior defensive analyst Levorn Harbin, better known as Coach Chop, was listed by Wiltfong this week as one of college football's top "off-field recruiting stars of the 2025 cycle".

"The Vols have as big an ace off-field recruiter as there in the country in LeVorn Harbin who is affectionally called ‘Coach Chop’ by blue-chippers across the land," wrote Wiltfong. "A Senior Defensive Analyst, Harbin helped recruit just about the entire defense including five-star defensive lineman Isaiah Campbell who at one point was committed to Clemson, pulling defensive linemen Mariyon Dye out of Indiana and beating Georgia and then holding on to linebacker Christian Gass out of the Peach State."

Harbin could soon be moving into an on-field role for the Volunteers.

Earlier this week, outside linebackers coach/special teams coordinator Mike Ekeler left Tennessee after four seasons to take the special teams coordinator job with the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Ekeler, who is from Nebraska, was part of Josh Heupel's inaugural coaching staff at Tennessee.

Harbin is considered by many as the lead candidate to replace Ekeler. It's unclear, however, who would officially coach special teams if Harbin is the choice to replace Ekeler.

Vols linebackers coach William Inge has experience coaching special teams in the past. Harbin also briefly coached special teams at Georgia Southern in the early 2000s.
