It's the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, a rematch of the 38-35 Super Bowl LVII win from just two seasons ago.
Even with the time off ahead of the big game, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid treated the team's AFC Championship Game win over the Bills like he would any regular-season victory. He stayed up late in his office watching film and began game-planning for the upcoming tilt with his old team.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Reid opened his press conference with comments on the Eagles.
"We understand that we've got a big challenge ahead of us coming up with the Eagles," he said. ". . . They're (in the Super Bowl) for a reason: because they're a good football team, and so we've got to make sure that we keep everything together and work to get a nice plan together for this group."
Asked about how the Eagles were different now from the team they faced two years ago in Super Bowl LVII, Reid emphasized their offense. The obvious answer, of course, is to point to Barkley. Reid had a few other points, but he definitely gave Barkley his respect.
"Yeah, well, those receivers have been in the offense now for a while, and they've got good tight ends," Reid said. "They've got good receivers, I mean, real good receivers. And they've got a running back that, you know, arguably is one of the best in the history of the game. And their offensive line, for all those guys to work, their offensive line has to be good, too. So, and then their quarterback is dialing it up right now. So, whatever injuries he had early in the season, I mean, he's playing like crazy right now. So that's a heck of an offense, another huge challenge for us."
Barkley certainly has a case for going down as one of the best running backs in the game's history. In his first season with the Eagles in 2024, Barkley became just the ninth running back in NFL history to rush for 2,000 or more yards, and he did it playing in just 16 games this season.
This postseason, he's been just as deadly. Barkley has recorded 66 carries for 442 rushing yards and five touchdowns over three games, which ranks seventh all-time for the most rushing yards in a single playoff appearance. Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo is going to have his hands full with this one, and it's no wonder that Coach Reid is already pondering how they're going to be able to slow him down.
