Kansas City Chiefs’ Cyrus Allen wasn’t the only wide receiver to leave Day 4 of training camp practice early due to injury

The Kansas City Chiefs’ injury nightmare continued on Saturday, with WR Xavier Worthy joining Cyrus Allen as players who exited practice early with injury. Worthy is dealing with a shoulder injury after having labrum surgery this offseason.

The big news of the day out of Kansas City Chiefs training camp was fifth-round draft pick Cyrus Allen exiting practice early with an apparent lower left leg injury. However, he wasn’t the only wide receiver to finish his day riding up the hill in a cart due to injury.

The Chiefs shared with reporters after practice that WR Xavier Worthy also left practice early due to a shoulder injury. Chiefs Digest’s Matt Derrick noted in observation that, “Worthy didn’t seem distressed as he exited” from practice.

This, however, is an injury worth monitoring. Remember that earlier during the team’s mandatory minicamp work, Worthy wore a yellow non-contact jersey. That was because he had offseason labrum surgery. He suffered the torn labrum in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. Worthy played through the injury, but it impacted him all year long.

“Last year I was never 100 percent,” Worthy said on Friday. “I was never going to be 100 percent until I got the surgery. So, I got the surgery, been working on it, building muscle mass, obviously working at it in the offseason, getting stronger and obviously building that shoulder back.”

The most disappointing part of this development? Worthy is coming off of a standout practice session on Saturday prior to the injury.

An injury setback is something that Xavier Worthy can hardly afford

Worthy is entering a pivotal 2026 NFL season after an injury-riddled campaign in 2025. He admirably fought through shoulder and ankle injuries, but had a disappointing year with 42 receptions for 532 yards and one touchdown on 73 targets across 14 games. He’s spent the entire offseason trying to build up his strength and put on good mass, in hopes of avoiding further injuries during his NFL career.

This year was trending toward a bounce-back season and a potential breakout year for the former first-round draft pick out of Texas. Until the team provides further updates on Worthy’s shoulder, this injury should rightfully leave fans nervous about the player and the position group.

Kansas City Chiefs are entering dangerous territory with wide receiver injuries stacking up

The Chiefs already had questions about their wide receiver room when fully healthy. Suddenly, three of their top four options could potentially be sidelined due to injury. Rashee Rice is still working his way back from offseason knee surgery and is not participating in practice.

Add in Saturday’s injuries to Allen and Worthy, and suddenly your top three options could become Tyquan Thornton, Andrew Armstrong, and Nikko Remigio. That’s not exactly a group that strikes fear into the hearts of defensive coordinators.

The Chiefs have two open spots on the 90-man offseason roster after placing John Michael Gyllenborg and Ethan Downs on injured reserve. With the injuries to Allen and Worthy, it’s probably time for Chiefs GM Brett Veach to pick up the phone and bring in a contributor at wide receiver.
