Alex McGough will be back with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL. After two seasons on the Green Bay Packers' practice squad, first as a quarterback, and then as a wide receiver, McGough decided to return to the minor league world to be a signal caller once again.

Alex played two seasons for the Stallions, in 2022 and 2023, when the team was a part of the USFL. He was a backup first, but took over in 2023 and was named the league's MVP. The team won two championships.

After that special campaign, Alex McGough received an opportunity with the Packers in 2023. He spent the entire season on the practice squad as the third quarterback, behind Jordan Love and Sean Clifford.

In 2024, after the Packers drafted Michael Pratt, McGough transitioned to wide receiver trying to keep a spot on the team. He ended up getting hurt and was waived, but returned to the Packers' practice squad as a receiver later in the season. However, he was not signed to a future contract for the 2025 season.

Now, Alex McGough will have a different challenge. The USFL and XFL have merged, creating the new and more competitive UFL.

The quarterback competition on the team will be interesting. The roster also has J'Mar Smith, who was the starter over McGough in 2022 and got hurt in 2023, and former NFL third-round pick Matt Corral.
