The Indianapolis Colts have multiple glaring needs heading into the 2025 season.

This makes them a difficult team to predict in mock drafts. Popular positions mocked so far this offseason include tight end, safety, corner, and even the occasional quarterback by people who are fully out on Anthony Richardson.

In a new A to Z Sports mock draft, they don't target any of those positions but instead make a move that I find beyond puzzling.

Colts select Ohio State OT Josh Simmons in a new mock draft

"It sounds like the Colts are gearing up to release right tackle Braden Smith as a cap casualty ahead of next season, opening up a spot on their offensive line.

Josh Simmons put out elite tape before getting hurt this season, but he should be ready to go by the start of next season. With prior experience at right tackle, Simmons can start early for the Colts there and help secure the pocket for Anthony Richardson."

– New A to Z Sports Mock Draft

The Colts selecting an offensive tackle in the first round would be one of the more shocking positions they could target. Honestly, it may be the most shocking result that could happen. The Colts currently have Bernhard Raimann and Braden Smith at tackle, but like the author in the mock shared, Smith could be a cap casualty this offseason. But the Colts saw rookie Matt Goncalves have a really strong rookie season and should look to hand him the starting right tackle job if they move on from Smith.

Now, that doesn't mean Josh Simmons isn't a great player who warrants to be drafted with the 14th pick. He will make a team very happy next year, but I don't see a way it's the Colts. The other area of concern would be the fact that Simmons is coming off a season-ending knee injury that required surgery. This would get quite the reaction from Colts fans if they chose to draft yet another player high off a season-ending injury.
