The Tennessee Vols are one of several programs in the mix for an elite recruit that decommitted from a prominent SEC program.

2026 four-star defensive lineman JaReylan McCoy decommitted from the LSU Tigers on Monday.

McCoy, 6-foot-6/245 lbs from Tupelo, MS, is rated in 247Sports' composite rankings as the No. 6 defensive lineman in the nation and the No. 5 player in the state of Mississippi. He's also rated as the No. 79 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.

The Mississippi native had been committed to LSU since early January.

“I just need to think about things a little more,” said McCoy to On3.

According to On3's Chad Simmons, Alabama, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and LSU are the schools in the mix for McCoy now that he's back on the market.

For now, Simmons thinks that Ole Miss holds the edge in this battle.

Scouting report via 247Sports: Big-featured defensive lineman with some alignment flex that has put some impressive flashes on tape over the years, but one that’s got a ways to go if he’s going to reach his potential. Saw production dip as a junior while working in the rotation for a Tupelo squad that captured a Mississippi 6A title, but found some success generating a rush on the inside in an odd front. At his best when he can create an advantage with his 36-inch arms, but needs to get better at engaging his lower half and learn how to consistently play with a flat back as there are too many times when he gets washed away at the point of attack. Should be viewed as a developmental prospect that’s going to need to get in the squat rack and buy into the process, but one with a higher ceiling given the frame and lateral movement skills.

Tennessee was one of McCoy's top four schools before he announced his commitment to LSU last month.
