It’s still so funny to read that USC and Penn State are in the same conference, but the Big Ten foes will now start to battle for more and more players. Most of those battles could come in the form of high school recruiting, but the NCAA Transfer Portal will also allow for the two to cross paths more regularly.

On Monday, we saw former USC wide receiver Kyron Hudson settle on the Nittany Lions, making the trip across the country for his final season. The demand was high for the California native, and programs all across college football pursued heavily. Eventually, Penn State won out.

Hudson was originally a part of the 2021 recruiting class for the Trojans, ranked as a consensus four-star player by every major recruiting platform. He continued the strong pipeline of Mater Dei star to USC, opting to stay home over other offers from Oregon, LSU, Penn State, and Nebraska among several others.

The 6-1, 205-pound pass catcher has carved out a role with the Trojans the last three seasons, but has really had a breakout this fall. In 12 games, Hudson has hauled in 38 receptions for 462 yards and three touchdowns, all career highs. Hudson did that despite being in a very, very deep wide receiver room.

It is no secret that Penn State needs some massive upgrades for their wide receiver room. Their leading wide receiver has been Harrison Wallace, who has made 39 receptions for 638 yards and four touchdowns. No other wide receiver has more than 360 yards on the season.

Hudson should, at worst, give this team another talented pass catcher added to the room. With Hudson presumedly coming back, as well as Omari Evans and Liam Clifford, it should be better just based on this one pickup. It’s anticipated that the Nittany Lions won’t be done at the position this portal cycle.
